Prop Cataloging: Days 1 and 2

Finally getting access to the props lockup, I was able to start cataloging the various props that were made and used in the show. Basically, it is very much a piece of heaven on the same plateau as the sets, costumes, and production artwork for the show.
There are at least two floors with shelves full of props for the show, which are fortunately organized within Rubbermaid bins. The area where I’m set up is very small, but functional.
The black backdrop is for the purposes of taking pictures of the various props. While these photos are merely reference photos, it is a lot easier to see detail if you don’t have the contrast of a wood surface. (Our professional photographer is coming in September to take the professional pictures of stuff for the first auction.)
In my travels, I’ve come across some very cool things, such as the wrist watches for the pilot jock smocks, discs from AOL’s evil Caprican twin, and the helmet young Adama used in Razor. (There’s also the prop of Romo Lampkin’s dead cat in a bag, which was shot, although that footage never made it to air.) Poor Lance.
Of course, I don’t have pictures of those things for you now, because I’m saving those for individual blog entries, since they’re extremely worthy of it.

Cubits are definitely a demand item. They are easy to reproduce and therefore licensing and security features are a must. The privately-owned Pobjoy Mint has prodcued under contract to the governments of New Zealand the Isle of Man and others “Harry Potter,” LOTR, Narnia and other fantasy-theme coins that are NCLT (Non-circulating Legal Tender) in the nations of origin.
Cubits have strong upside potential.
