I Need a Hero

This week is going to be an important one in the history of our lives.  It will be a week that sets apart the men from the boys, the women from the girls, the rational from the crazy.  This is the week Home Depot sells out of steel bar sliding locks for doors and all grocery stores overstock canned goods, only to find themselves a barren wasteland of empty shelves at the end of each day.  Armageddon?  Apocalypse?  No, this is not the end of the world–but it is the end of the world as we know it.  This is the week when that little movie–that vampire/human love story starring a skinny British hipster and a washboard stomached 17-year-old werewolf–hits theaters.  Essentially, this week, the power of Tween Fandom obliterates the country by descending upon it with such insane zombie-esque mob strength, that it leaves nothing in its path.  Be afraid.  Be very…wait a minute!  Maybe we shouldn’t run from these fanatics just yet.  These people want a piece of something they love, just like us.  Right?

Are we really that far removed from these fantasy/romance loving fan-kids?  I think you know the answer to that.  We LOVE our BSG.  And I bet you two cubits (get it? cubits.) that you would be just as crazed if you saw Edward James Olmos walking down the street in skinny jeans, a Duty Blue Jacket and a pale, sullen look in his eyes.  Well…maybe not.  Perhaps our fanaticism is a little more adult and sophisticated than that.  Perhaps we pride ourselves on being able to walk around like normal people by day, and only let the excited 15 year-old fan side of us come out in the comfort of our own home.  Only when we sit in front of the computer screen and log on to eBay to look upon the new items up for auction.  Our tummies begin to flutter as we realize these items could be ours!  Because, as “responsible adults”, with “responsible adult jobs”–we can afford all the cool toys we want!  Rad!!!  And lets just admit right now that the best “toys” of all, are the hero props.  These are the props that were actually touched, specifically USED BY our favorite characters (Swoon!!).  Just think, if only you could hold THE SAME notepad that Baltar doodled on!  What if you could wear the ACTUAL dog tags worn by Gaeta?! (Shriek!)  Guess what…YOU CAN!!! (Gasp. Faint.)  For the next auction, we are going to offer you several opportunities to own some hero items from your favorite show of all time (BSG, of course!).  Here are some of the items.  Go for it, you fellow fanboys:

Gaeta’s Dog Tags
Felix Gaeta’s dog tags with chain. Standard Galactica tags with the colonial seal, “L. Gaeta,” and serial number etched onto each tag. Distressed condition.

Lee Adama’s Watch
Lee Adama’s screen-used, hero watch worn during the dream sequence while floating on his back in the water in Season Two’s “Resurrection Ship.” The watch is made by Nixon. The watch face has been modified to read “asmodei.” Functionality of prop is unknown. Measures about 2½″ in diameter.

Baltar’s Hero Page of Notes from Trial
The hero notepad from the trial of Baltar in Season Three of BSG. The notepad includes pages of “doodles” and notes drawn by James Callis as Gaius Baltar.

Tom Zarek’s Quorum Pin
Tom Zarek’s hero Quorum of Twelve pin. This is the hero pin worn by Richard Hatch as Tom Zarek, while the character was a representative of Sagittaron. Small production modified pin. The pin is plastic and has been painted sliver. The pin has red backing and measures .75″ long.

Simon’s Hero Suicide Note
Hero suicide note written by the Number Four Cylon Simon, who lived as a Colonial medic aboard the Cybele and had married Giana O’Neil. He killed himself out of resurrection range rather than destroy his ship and family like Fleet Cavil ordered him to. As seen in the telefilm “The Plan.” Production-made handwritten note “torn” from a book with cut corners. The note reads, “My Dear Giana Forgive me. Kiss Jemmy for me. Love outlasts death Your Simon”. Measures 8.3″ x 7.1″.

Hero props make me look cool. So do the sunglasses.
