FAQ
Like the myriad of other internet websites out there, we have concocted our own Frequently Asked Questions list out of necessity. As we receive many, many emails, we recommend that those inquisitive minds who have questions for us refer to this list, as your question may have already been answered. If not, make contact with us—or, better yet, jump on our forums—and your question (and our answer!) may end up here.
Where and when will the auctions be held?
The first live auction will be held January 16-18 at the Pasadena Convention Center, in Pasadena, California.
- Friday, January 16th, 2009
- Preview Day / Galactica Behind the Scenes (Panels with BSGs production crew from the art, costume, prop, set decoration and set construction crews.)
- Saturday, January 17th
- Live Auction, Day 1: Lots # 1-400
- Sunday, January 18th
- Live Auction, Day 2: Lots # 401-800
How do I bid?
Want to attend the auction live? No problem, just show up! There is no charge and anyone can attend (Don’t forget Preview Day, Friday the 16th, which will have panel interviews with the production department heads and viewing of every lot!). You can register online (at www.auctionnetwork.com) or register at the auction.
Want to bid online instead? You can bid in the Live Auction from anywhere in the world, all you need is Internet access. Just register at Auctionnetwork.com and be in front of your computer the day of the auction. The online experience is fantastic as the whole auction will be web cast and you can watch and bid right online against the floor bidders who are at the auction. The interface is easy to use so go sign up now!
Won’t be available that day? Don’t worry! Auction Network allows you to place a proxy bid, just like eBay, so place your bid and walk away. Auction Network will do the bidding for you up to your maximum bid.
What about eBay?
The day after the Live Auction, we will have 200 auctions closing on eBay. These will be mostly less expensive items, for those who missed out on winning in the Live Auction (and anyone else for that matter). Those auctions will be listed Monday, January 12th and end, Monday, January 19th, the day after the Live Auction. Find us at eBay by searching our ID “Propworx” or by searching for Battlestar Galactica.
Then, every week during the final 10 episodes, we will be listing new items each Friday night to end the following Friday night. This will include props and costumes from that week’s episodes, so watch Battlestar Galactica on SciFi Channel and then bid on the items you saw that week, as well as lots of other items.
Will there be a print catalog like the big auction houses publish for each auction?
Yes, the printed catalog for the first Live Auction will be shipping out beginning December 31st, 2008. We will soon be publishing more information, including how to order it online, as soon as we can. The catalog is a stunningly beautiful 300 page catalog of the 800 items in the first auction, and is proving to become an instant collectible. Every Battlestar Galactica fan will want a copy!
Will there be an online version of the catalog?
Yes, the catalog is available online via Auction Network. Click here to view it.
Do the props and costumes come with a Certificate of Authenticity?
Every item is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity personally signed by Alec Peters, CEO of Propworx and Kurt Ford of NBC/Universal. Each certificate is tied to the particular item by a tamper-proof, individually numbered BSG hologram. The hologram is in two parts, one of which is attached to the prop, the other which is attached to the COA, so the two items can never be sold separately. Fabric items, such as costumes, have the hologram attached to a specially designed tag which the hologram is attached to. This is a first in the prop collecting world and we are very proud of how Propworx is raising the bar in prop and costume authentication.
There are so many great props like Adama’s lighter or the Arrow of Apollo which will probably go very high. Do you anticipate having some smaller less extravagant items for those of us with smaller budgets?
Yes, there will be plenty of items for people on smaller budgets. It is important to us that everyone who is a fan gets the chance to have a piece of the show. And while the two live auctions will have a lot of the more expensive items, the weekly Internet auctions that will happen during the final 10 episodes, will have many lesser priced items.
What’s up with the reference photos? Are they the final photos?
No, these photos are not the final photos. The reference photos are for our personal reference when we’re cataloging the massive amounts of items we find. It makes our jobs easier when attempting to put a “face” on something like “Adama’s shaving kit” or “Helo’s Raptor plug”. (We just share them because they usually show more detail than the onscreen depictions… The camera work in the show is great, but it sucks when you try to screencap stuff with any detail.)
We will be having a professional photographer taking pictures of the items that we will be auctioning off for both the online and print catalogs, and in the future we will be using that photography instead. If only for the fact that it’s shinier and puts our cheap snapshots to shame.
How much is shipping overseas?
That is an impossible question to answer. It depends what the item is. If you win a set of pins, the shipping costs will be a lot different than if you win a Viper!
Will there be any items from the old Battlestar Galactica series that will be auctioned off?
No. Everything in the auction is from SciFi Channel’s Battlestar Galactica, not the old series.
