Propworx is proud to present this historic piece of television history that was used in the original 1978 Battlestar Galactica, a screen used Daggit!

This incredible piece, named “Muffit”, is one of only two known to exist from the series. This item has gone through some restoration to bring it to its current state by the very talented Battlestar enthusiast Dale Long. The restoration includes work done to the silver and grey piping that adorns the arms and waist, new ear and eye domes, as well as upgraded electronics that remotely control the working ears and mouth.

This piece was used by a monkey on set; because of their small bodies they could fit inside of the piece and still retain movement. The Daggit now rests on a foam and metal armature to keep its shape, and can be placed in several different positions.

This stunning item, and others like it will be up for auction this Month, on August 27th in our upcoming Battlestar Galactica Auction. Keep an eye out on www.Propworx.com, as well as our Facebook page, www.Facebook.com/Propworx for more information and blog posts!

Have you ever dreamed of launching a viper from your living room? If you have, then this gem will make your day. This is the actual Viper launch control board from the Hangar Bay set. It is an amazing piece. Set under a large trapezoidal window facing out to the Viper Launch tube this control panel has sent many a Viper barreling out to combat. It has also ejected a few of our favorite and not so favorite characters to their demise.

You might be wondering… “Where has this little gem been hiding?” Well, to be honest we just plain forgot we had it. It’s been stuffed under one of our many shelving racks waiting its turn to be offered to intrepid Battlestar collectors. Now that there is room to see everything in our warehouse we are rediscovering these awesome pieces.

In the following photo Damian is providing a little leg support so I could take a photo of the piece with my iphone.

This piece is heavy! It’s made from hardboard and plywood. So, if you intend to bid on it make sure to ready yourself when you get the shipping charges. All said and done it’s definitely a piece worth displaying in your “Man’s Room” to make your buddies jealous.

These full-size pieces were used in filming of the show and are the only two pieces of their kind in existence. Each ship is made of wood, foam, and metal, and the instrumentation on them does work. (Ok, OK… they’ll light up anyway… they won’t fly the ship off the ground and into space, otherwise we’re sure NASA would like to take a look at them.)

Interior view of the back section of the Raptor, where Helo and other "backseaters" sat during the series run.

Each ship comes with its own kit that allows the ships to be powered from a regular wall outlet and includes VGA hookups so that you can hook your computer to them and play back the DRADIS screens on the built in LCD monitors inside each ship. (The Viper has one LCD screen, the Raptor more than a few.) A disc including the static graphics will be included in each set.

A few pieces of technical information on each ship:

The Mark VII Viper has a wingspan of 14′, measuring 30′ long by 13’6″ tall, with an approximate weight of 2,200 to 2,500 pounds. The wings on both the side and top are removable for easy transportation and storage, and the Viper’s main body is on casters allowing for easy movement.

The Raptor is a considerably larger ship, measuring 10.8″ tall by 22’6″ wide by 30′ long, and weighing approximately 6,000 pounds. The pontoons and the wings on top are removable for easy storage. The Raptor itself is on casters that allow it to be moved relatively easily.

Interior of the Mark VII's cockpit.

Each of these wonderful pieces of science fiction history include a full assembly manual for these ships with photographs.

Storage can be arranged for several months if needed through the NBC/Universal storage supplier, at the rate of $ 400 per ship per month.

Transportation needs to be by Tractor/Trailer and a 10’3” Air-Ride equipped version is needed.

The console includes the VGA and power cable for the monitor, but not the wireless receiver for the keyboard.

As you can see, there are five squadrons listed on the board: Primus, Vigilantes, Demons, Prowlers and Raptors. The first four are Viper squadrons on Galactica, while the last squadron—as would be expected—are Raptors. Under each squadron, you will see the tail number of the craft assigned to the squadron in question, as well as its pilot. Raptors, on the other hand, list both the Raptor’s pilot and ECO.

Since you’ve seen the Raptor in yesterday’s post on the Cylon basestar interior, we may as well continue on that tangent.

With the Raptor being the mainstay military transport and support vehicle available to Galactica and, later, Pegasus, the ship is modeled after real world military helicopters, namely the Apache.

These designs show a more complicated model of Raptor, however it is very close to the final product that we get to see on screen both in CGI and the physical, full-scale models used on the show.

These are pencil drawn and shaded designs by Ken Rahebl (familiar with that name yet, folks?) on vellum, and said originals will be available in the auction.
