Stream of Sconce-iousness

January 20, 2010

The third “33 Auction” is finally underway! Have you been watching daily? Have you seen what I have seen? Deals! Wow, so many shockingly affordable items–some of which may be the thing you have always dreamed of owning, but never thought you could afford it. This week is definitely yours for the taking.

What was that? Did I just hear someone say, “Tell me more”? Okay, since you twisted my arm, and because I have such fond feelings for all you co-BSG fans, I am going to drop you hints in the next couple weeks of great items that I know you will be thrilled to get for such a steal. Trust me on this. I have seen these items with my own eyes. And my eyes know what they are talking about…

So remember how you always said you wanted to transform your house into the Galactica? And remember how your husband always said “no way”? (see how I did that? I turned the tables on stereotype. Just like that!) Well here’s your chance to finally do sum subtle redecorating without bringing home the whole CIC. Wall Sconces! Line your hallway with lots, or even one of them. Suddenly you have yourself a Battlestar-esque corridor, AND new lighting fixtures. Everyone is happy. Take a look at these working wall sconces seen throughout all seasons of the show:

These Sconces are wall lights from Galactica’s Combat Information Center.  Lights like these were mounted on the walls.  Used throughout all seasons of the Battlestar Galactica series.  Gray incandescent lights with frosed glass.  Each measures 8.5″ x 5″ x 4.25″ and are fully functional.  The sconces with the crossbars are from the Galactica cooridors and the others are from the CIC.

T-Minus 2 Days Until the “33 Auctions”

October 27, 2009

It’s almost the time for the launch of the “33 Auctions”, 4 monthly auctions, separated by 33 days each, that will be the last of the Battlestar auctions.  Each auction will include items from the Battlestar movie “The Plan,” out on DVD today, as well as items from the entire series.  Propworx latest BSG auction on eBay will kick off 2 days from now (tick tick).  So close!  So set your schedules accordingly and get ready for your last chance to purchase original props and costumes from the greatest Sci Fi series of all time.

In an attempt to make your mouse-clicking fingers tingle in anticipation, we thought we would give you a preview of a couple items that could be yours!

Of course, there are secrets we must keep for now.  We hardly want to be known as the “bearers of spoilers”.  “The Plan” tells the story of the Miniseries through Season Two of BSG from the Cylons‘ point of view.  It resolves many unanswered questions that have no doubt given BSG fans sleepless nights since the series ended.  Get ready to sleep like a baby again–”The Plan” is being released today on Blu-Ray and DVD!  Many of the items up for bid in this first week of auctions are directly related to the new twists that unfold in “The Plan.”  Keep an eye out, they are among the 200 items that will be launching Thursday.

In the meantime (without giving anything away), here are two items we are proud to be offering:

BATHROOM DOOR FROM GALACTICA

The bathroom door from <i>Galactica</i>'s unisex head.

The bathroom door from Galactica's unisex head. Kellie not included!

Bid on one of the doors from Galactica‘s unisex bathroom!  It was used in the Miniseries and throughout all four seasons of the series, as well as being a prominent element in a very important scene in “The Plan.”  The door itself is a sheet metal covered wooden door with a sliding latch.  It is one of only four remaining.  Why not try for the whole set?!!  This piece is not only iconic and a great conversation piece, but impressive in its size and design.

COACH’S CLIPBOARD AND GAME PLANS

The C-Bucaneers Coach's clipboard! Again, Kellie is not included in the auction!

The C-Bucaneers Coach's clipboard! Again, Kellie is not included in the auction!

The C-Bucs and their coach were involved in “high altitude training” at the exact moment of the Cylon attack on Caprica, and thus, survived.  How fortunate for them…or was it?!!!  “The Plan” gives a detailed account of this pyramid team turned resistance fighters in the weeks following the Cylon occupation.  This prop, used specifically in “The Plan,” is Coach’s plastic clipboard featuring a Buccaneers logo on the back.  It includes one full-color page of eight plans for plays.  Since the C-Bucs play such a prominent role in “The Plan,” there are many new items used by the team that will be offered in the auctions.  This happens to be one of our favorites–very striking and in excellent condition.  Also, to the delight of our “nerd sides”, the game plans themselves appear to be an homage to the classic Nintendo game, “Tecmo Bowl”.

Stay tuned to this site for more information on each week’s auction, and join the conversations on our forum!

Sacrificial Daggers on the Battlestar?

June 8, 2009

Here is an interesting bit of kit to ponder on regarding the juxtaposition between the Polytheistic religion of the Colonies and the Monotheistic religion of the Cylons. When you take the time to really look at these daggers they have a very menacing and polytheistic look about them. At first I thought, “Huh, interesting “Klingon-ish” daggers” but then I realized that in some Polythestic religions sacrificial knives are sometimes part of the belief system. This brings up an interesting hypothesis that these were daggers used by the different Colonies during the First Cylon War. Or, they are an unintentional and happy coincidence purchased by the guys from Set Dec.

Anyway, it is a very neat and exciting piece that will create plenty of conversation at your next dinner party.

Down with the walking toasters!

Props of Auction Two, or, Attack of the Cylon Transponder (again)

May 6, 2009

Today we went through the list of props for auction two, and decided what we’d like to fall off the truck. Unfortunately for us that damn Cylon transponder was still under my desk and Alec heard everything. Frak! Well, I figured someone should benefit from my and my staff’s slacking, so here is a list of items we think are worth having.

Another item for your garage guys, number 384, Kara’s crashed viper intake cover – how awesome would it be to hold it up every time someone enters the room and scream “what am I?” Super awesome, that’s how. You could also tell people about the plane crash you survived in the war while eating refried beans from a can made from the Cylon you toasted in combat, but that might be over-kill.

358 – Saul’s eye patch — oh come on, it would be a hit at all the Cylon parties Brother Cavil is always talking about. You could go around telling everybody what kind of man you are, ask people if they hear the music too, or just stare at them with one unblinking gaze. I know of at least one guy who ran around the marriot last years screeming “Its in the frakking walls!” that should be bidding on this. That’s right, I know you all so well I’m calling you out now. Muahahahaha!

Number 533, Gaeta’s Secret Document Envelopes – be part of the resistance! Sneak around your house and leave them in unsuspecting drawers, then flip over your dog’s bowl. Everyone you live with will appreciate the sacrifice you are making, except for your dog, who has decided he’d be better off with cat killer Lampkin.

Lot 505, a Cylon Spy Device – Like I said before, this thing keeps showing up under my desk, please someone buy it and take it home!!

An item that is sure to make a killing is Lot 575, the National Geographic which features an insert on “The mother of Mankind” or as we know her, Hera, that kid that grows really fast. This is a really great item because its easy to display and super recognizable.

So there you have it, five things that didn’t make it into my apartment, and will hopefully make it into one of your homes. Make sure you are registered to bid online at auctionnetwork.com, and please come by and visit our forums at battlestarprops.com to meet up with other fans, chat about the props, and get more information on our auctions. I hope to see you all at the auction, it should be a frakking good time! – Erin

Starbuck’s Paintings from Auction II

May 3, 2009

Besides being the top fighter jock of the Colonial Fleet, Starbuck also wields a wildly creative paintbrush. Most of her paintings first appeared in the Season Two episode “Valley of Darkness.” We start off with scene 83C which is an interior shot of Kara’s apartment on Caprica. In the scene Helo finds a stack of canvases leaning against one wall Starbuck’s apartment and begins to flip through them. Helo notices they are avant-garde, bizarre paintings. Starbuck’s paintings next appear in the Season Three episode “Maelstrom.” Right off the bat in scene 1 is once again a shot of the interior of Kara’s apartment. This time it is Kara’s dream sequence with Leoben where they get a bit frisky and end up splattering white paint all over everything, including themselves. Of note some of the paintings in the auction have white paint splatters on them from this scene. Kara’s paintings finally appear in the Season Four episode “Daybreak.” For those who are keen to notice items in the background, in scene 25 when Kara answers her door, right behind Kara’s head is her semiotic painting of the mandala (Lot 760 — Check it out here).

During most all of Kara’s flashback sequence when she first meets Lee, you are able to spot a majority of Kara’s painting on the wall. And for those who are wondering — sorry to say– No, Kara DID NOT paint any of the paintings. All of them were masterfully created by the Battlestar Galactica Paint Department. I know it is a shock, but remember it’s all make believe… or is it?

See the rest of Kara’s paintings at Auction Networks starting with Lot 757 or in our Archive.

Good Hunting nuggets,

Adama’s Vishnu Statue from Auction II

April 15, 2009

One would think that the commander of a well traveled Battlestar and eventual Admiral of the fleet would have quite eclectic tastes. Well, they would be right. When you really begin to analyze the items scattered about Adama’s quarters you begin to see the broad base of religious and ethnic heritage that was worked into the character of William Adama by the creative staff. One religious icon that heralds as being fairly large and prominent in Adama’s quarters is Vishnu the four armed god. Vishnu is regarded as a major god in Hinduism and Indian mythology. He is thought as the preserver of the universe and represents mercy and goodness.

A very fitting religious icon for the man who struggles to preserve the human race in the torturous race to find Earth after the post apocalyptic destruction on Caprica. “Because it’s not enough to just live. You have to have something to live for. Let it be Earth.” – Adama

Galactica Binders

December 7, 2008

Even in a technologically advanced society such as that depicted in Battlestar Galactca, one can never escape paperwork. And, of course, there must be a place to put all that paperwork.

Throughout Galactica (and the other battlestars, on the occasions that their interiors have been seen) one will note various color coded binders.

One such set is lot 622 in the auction, which is a compilation of 9 different types of Galactica binders.

Lot 622 in the First Auction... a set of 9 distinct binders from Galactica.

Mostly, the silver spine binders will be found in CIC. The red spine binders are typically found in the married quarters, such as Colonel Tigh’s or the Agathon’s. Clear gray and black spines are more rare, and typically dress other sets, and the yellow spine binders are found in CIC or the Hangar Bay (depending, of course, on how they’re stickered). The FTL binder is also rare and meant for looking up the processes and minutae of the ship’s FTL system.

A blue FTL and a yellow CIC binder near the FTL console, as seen in the Miniseries, before the jump to Rangar Anchorage.

The Munitions binder, which is the red binder with the yellow decals on the spine, is briefly seen in the Miniseries as Tigh looks at the manifest for Ragnar Anchorage. (And, yes, the binder does have the inventory sheets from Ragnar Anchorage in it.)

Galactica Hangar Bay Signs

November 30, 2008

Yesterday, I wrote a post about the nice, sleek and clean signage from Pegasus‘s hangar bay from “Razor.” As one would expect, Galactica also has its own signage, although considerably more older and weathered.

These pieces measure 21″ x 14″ and there are two lots (Lot 686 and 689) that are featured in the first auction. Some pieces from those lots are shown below.

A "33" sign from Hangar Bay 1. Hmm... where have we heard that number before?

A directional sign from Hangar Bay 1.

Of course, the set decoration crew used many different signs like these to aid in the illusion that Galactica‘s hangar bays were huge. One such sign is below.

Pegasus Hangar Bay Signage

November 29, 2008

For the first time in Battlestar Galactica, we get to see the inside of Pegasus‘s hangar bay—which looks conspicuously similar to Galacticas own hangar bay—in “Razor“. (Obviously, that’s because it is the same set, just redressed differently and a lot cleaner.)

A few simple changes were made to that set to make it seem like it could be Pegasus‘s hangar deck. One of those changes come in the form of the signage on the walls.

A shot of the Pegasus hangar bay (a redressed verison of Galactica's own hangar bay) with black signage and the black and chrome wall phone units, amongst other aesthetic changes.

These signs are made of plastic and measures 20″ x 10″, and two lots of three signs each will be featured in the first auction. Here are some closeup shots of the various wall signs used for “Razor”.

A piece of directional signage from Hangar Bay 1 of Pegasus. "LC" means "Launch Control".

A sign denoting the "Repair Bay" portion of the hangar deck.

A sign for the third section of Hangar Bay 1.
