Let’s Give Cavil Some Props

October 30, 2009

So this week you all rushed to the nearest…(DVD store? Does that even exist anymore in this age of never leaving our chairs?)…well, rushed somewhere to buy your copy of The Plan. And I’m sure you are on your third or fourth viewing. In fact, I think I can hear you from my office! Yes, that is you I am sure of it–you are shouting at the screen. You just said, “Sharon did WHAT?” and then you said “Oh no, he didn’t!!!”. “He”, of course being, Dean Stockwell’s “Cavil” doing something sneaky and sinister. Remember the Dean Stockwell of yesteryear/Quantum Leap? You know, the nice hologram Dean, Al Calavicci, who smoked cigars and tapped the side of his Blackberry…I mean, time machine or whatever.  Yeah he’s gone.

For those of you who have had the opportunity to watch The Plan, you know what I mean. And you same folks also know how important the character of “Cavil” is to the entire plot of The Plan. So important in fact, that I want to talk more about the Cavil props we are auctioning off this week on eBay. Take a closer look at some of these items…and then bid on them!

Lookin' sharp, Kel!

Lookin’ sharp, Kel!

FLEET CAVIL’S BOOK AND KNIFE

This is the book on which Cavil cuts his apple, used in that sweet scene depicting the heart to heart between Cavil and The Boy. And for those of us who have seen The Plan, that “sweet scene” doesn’t stay sweet for long (wink, wink).  So included with the book is Cavil’s knife–the knife he uses to cut the apple, and to…well…you know.  Hey, don’t hesitate to bid on this just because you are scared of sharp edges, the knife has been dulled by production. Phew!

JOHN CAVIL’S HAT

This is a backup version of the hat Cavil wore throughout the telefilm The Plan. One might even go as far as to say this is Cavil’s most iconic costume piece–lets face it, the guy wore it all the time. The hat is brown, from the Australian Outback Collection. It is a size small.

As your doctor if "The Plan" is right for you.

BROTHER CAVIL’S “THE PLAN” PAMPHLET

Here we have one of the pamphlets handed out by Fleet Cavil in The Plan. On the front, a graphic depiction of Dean Stockwell’s profile! The pamphlet includes Cavil’s contact information, which who knows, may come in handy in case of Cylon apocalypse. It also contains the written lyrics to “The Song of Mindkind”, and several Cylon prayers.

T-Minus 2 Days Until the “33 Auctions”

October 27, 2009

It’s almost the time for the launch of the “33 Auctions”, 4 monthly auctions, separated by 33 days each, that will be the last of the Battlestar auctions.  Each auction will include items from the Battlestar movie “The Plan,” out on DVD today, as well as items from the entire series.  Propworx latest BSG auction on eBay will kick off 2 days from now (tick tick).  So close!  So set your schedules accordingly and get ready for your last chance to purchase original props and costumes from the greatest Sci Fi series of all time.

In an attempt to make your mouse-clicking fingers tingle in anticipation, we thought we would give you a preview of a couple items that could be yours!

Of course, there are secrets we must keep for now.  We hardly want to be known as the “bearers of spoilers”.  “The Plan” tells the story of the Miniseries through Season Two of BSG from the Cylons‘ point of view.  It resolves many unanswered questions that have no doubt given BSG fans sleepless nights since the series ended.  Get ready to sleep like a baby again–”The Plan” is being released today on Blu-Ray and DVD!  Many of the items up for bid in this first week of auctions are directly related to the new twists that unfold in “The Plan.”  Keep an eye out, they are among the 200 items that will be launching Thursday.

In the meantime (without giving anything away), here are two items we are proud to be offering:

BATHROOM DOOR FROM GALACTICA

The bathroom door from <i>Galactica</i>'s unisex head.

The bathroom door from Galactica's unisex head. Kellie not included!

Bid on one of the doors from Galactica’s unisex bathroom!  It was used in the Miniseries and throughout all four seasons of the series, as well as being a prominent element in a very important scene in “The Plan.”  The door itself is a sheet metal covered wooden door with a sliding latch.  It is one of only four remaining.  Why not try for the whole set?!!  This piece is not only iconic and a great conversation piece, but impressive in its size and design.

COACH’S CLIPBOARD AND GAME PLANS

The C-Bucaneers Coach's clipboard! Again, Kellie is not included in the auction!

The C-Bucaneers Coach's clipboard! Again, Kellie is not included in the auction!

The C-Bucs and their coach were involved in “high altitude training” at the exact moment of the Cylon attack on Caprica, and thus, survived.  How fortunate for them…or was it?!!!  “The Plan” gives a detailed account of this pyramid team turned resistance fighters in the weeks following the Cylon occupation.  This prop, used specifically in “The Plan,” is Coach’s plastic clipboard featuring a Buccaneers logo on the back.  It includes one full-color page of eight plans for plays.  Since the C-Bucs play such a prominent role in “The Plan,” there are many new items used by the team that will be offered in the auctions.  This happens to be one of our favorites–very striking and in excellent condition.  Also, to the delight of our “nerd sides”, the game plans themselves appear to be an homage to the classic Nintendo game, “Tecmo Bowl”.

Stay tuned to this site for more information on each week’s auction, and join the conversations on our forum!

Another BSG Fan’s Dream Come True

October 10, 2009

This guest blog comes from Kelly Long:

I owe many great experiences to Propworx. I worked at the second auction as a member of the Colonial Fleet. I met Luciana Carro, “Kat”, while working at the show. I had the opportunity to present to send her a set of season 2 and 3 base sets of Battlestar cards. I also attended Dragon Con, where I mentioned that I hoped she had received and enjoyed the cards. She did a double take and said “that was you!?” I said yes, that I was at the Propworx auction, in duty blues, and my call sign was Plasma. She immediately remembered me and proceeded to hug me!! She said that she was very grateful for the cards and thought it was a very sweet thing. One fan dream attained.

I attended the first auction as a normal fan and asked desperately for a Battlestar prop as a gift from my family—I never want or ask for anything but I had finally found something I wanted. I ended up with Geata’s personal computer. As mentioned earlier I worked at the second auction, and while working at the auction, who could avoid the temptation to bid? I bought a couple of items include the set of Dualla’s personal effects containing the ball and jacks from Earth. I also obtained a book of Pythia from the show via this site! All these items were lovingly—as a fellow fan you can probably guess the extreme measures—packed up for the guests a Dragon Con.

While getting autographs at the walk of fame I asked Alessandro Juliani if I could bring his character’s computer to the photo op I had purchased and he was fine with that. I went up looking for McClure’s line to get her autograph and confirm what my roommate had told me (my roommate—who had the headset-had also— asked about my props) that I could bring her dogtags and the ball and jacks from Earth. She said “I don’t have a line” somewhat in a mock of dismay. I said that I was eagerly waiting for her autograph and to speak with her. She seemed very excited that I had purchased her dogtags and wrote on my autograph to “Take frak’n good care of my tags for me!” I thought this added so much personality to what could have been something so general. To answer your question, yes, I almost cried. I proceeded to get the other cast members autographs and speak with them. Mary McDonnell was my final quest, I waited for hers last since her line was the longest. I asked to salute her and in all my excitement to salute the President—I was dressed in my flightsuit best—I forgot to ask about Pythia and had to hope she would be as gracious as the others.

The photo op arrived before I could believe it, although the lack of sleep could have really been messing with my perception of time. I brought all the items with me in a box. Mary McDonnell was my first photo op and I asked if she wouldn’t mind holding my book of Pythia from the show. She agreed and graciously held it. I took a couple photos, Kate Vernon and Aaron Douglas, before McClure. I held my breath waiting for it since I was hoping she would recognize me. I walked up and handed her the dogtags and the ball and jacks from Earth in the bag. She put the tags on and then said one minute and proceeded to pour the ball and jacks out into her hand! Insert sharp inhale on my part and a deep internal scream for joy. I was just hoping for the bag to be seen, what she did was way above and beyond anything I expected and I could not have been more grateful. It will be a welcome picture to display with them. Gaeta offered a serious face as though he was reading “his” personal computer, which I absolutely laugh at to think that it is this prop I own which led him to do that. I should add that Froggy’s was great for putting up with my requests. Thank you Propworx for the opportunity to own a piece of a show so great it is monumental and enjoying the history of my own I made with it.
