Like a Razor…
April 30, 2009
While Admiral Cain was only on the show for a short time, she seems to have developed quite a following, (yes, I mean all of you people emailing me!!) and since you’ve asked, we have this week a set of ‘Hero’ tags worn by the Character of Helena Cain. These tags are a plastic set, usually worn while the actress was speaking, so as not to make noise. These tags are weathered and feature the Colonial Phoenix symbol, with H. Cain written below, as well as her serial number: Ser. 886931

Admiral Cain, leader of the Pegasus crew and for a short time, Admiral of the fleet.
I know all of you die hard Cain fans are reading this, so make sure you bookmark this auction! We have very little Pegasus, and in particular, Cain stuff left, get it while you can, and make sure to be at our live auction in a week, we have a few very cool items from Cain, Kendra, and all your favorite Pegasus crew members.
Wings and Their Designations
April 27, 2009
Galactica crew insignia nomenclature can be a tricky thing to figure out when it comes to our auction listings. When we first started out listing Duty Blues and Flight Suits you may have noticed we called the Pilot Wings “Junior” and “Senior.” Well, turns out we were incorrect in using that nomenclature for the wing designations in our listings. One of the great things about working with all of the costumes and props is that we also have the continuity books that the production crew used to reference stuff as well. While researching pins one day I noticed that the BSG production referenced the wings as “Captain Level” and “Commander/Colonel” Pilot Wings from the Miniseries till the first Season or so. “Junior” and “Senior” was never adopted as an official description. The early naming convention got a bit cumbersome for production as other “Officers” such as Junior and Senior Lieutenants were seen to have wings along with Admirals. The wings were renamed “Standard” and “Elite” Pilot Wings for Season Three and onward to alleviate the nonsensical disparity in the early description.
In an effort to maintain a sense of uniformity and consistency with what the production had done we switched over to using the correct Season Three terminology when describing Pilot Wings. The following photo is a compilation of the different nomenclature for the Pilot Wings. The top most being the correct and the bottom showing the early naming with notes/corrections.

Hope this made some level of clarification and/or a bit of trivia for you.
Good Hunting,
Steven

Auction II Catalog PDF Download
April 21, 2009
The Battlestar Galactica Live Auction II catalog is now available as a PDF. This file will show you the entire print catalog that is now available for purchase, but in electronic form. We originally weren’t going to release the PDF, but have decided to do so since it was so popular last time. I still would urge you to buy the print catalog as it is really spectacular and better than the last one. The new Battlestar Galactica Live Auction II catalog is certainly the coolest prop and costume auction catalog ever available. Plus, it features seven pieces of original artwork based on the Battlestar Galactica squadron insignia! We have created ship squadron insignia designs for the Battlestar Galactica fighter craft which premier in the catalog, and the designs will be available as embroidered patches at the Live Auction.
Be patient this is a 35.8 MB download, so it will take a few minutes depending on your internet connection.
Collecting Production Art
April 20, 2009
As I was helping prepare items for this week’s eBay auction, I came across concept art for a Viper Mark VII cockpit interior that blew my mind. It’s an Ivana Vasak original pencil sketch on vellum and very cool. After raving about it to my co-workers, I noticed four additional drawings by Ken Rabehl that didn’t have item numbers. Steve then informed me that all five were a set. I nearly fell out of my chair.

I’ve been collecting animation art for nearly 20 years, plus the women in my family are visual artists, so I have a pretty good eye and consider myself somewhat of an aficionado. Here are some of the great things about collecting production art:
1) You can frame and display it at home or in your office;
2) Its value generally appreciates with age; and
3) It’s frakking awesome!

Adama’s Vishnu Statue from Auction II
April 15, 2009
One would think that the commander of a well traveled Battlestar and eventual Admiral of the fleet would have quite eclectic tastes. Well, they would be right. When you really begin to analyze the items scattered about Adama’s quarters you begin to see the broad base of religious and ethnic heritage that was worked into the character of William Adama by the creative staff. One religious icon that heralds as being fairly large and prominent in Adama’s quarters is Vishnu the four armed god. Vishnu is regarded as a major god in Hinduism and Indian mythology. He is thought as the preserver of the universe and represents mercy and goodness.

A very fitting religious icon for the man who struggles to preserve the human race in the torturous race to find Earth after the post apocalyptic destruction on Caprica. “Because it’s not enough to just live. You have to have something to live for. Let it be Earth.” – Adama

C-Buc’s Rule! Pyramid Ball up for Auction
April 14, 2009
Pyramid, the colonial sport we first get a glimpse of in Season Two’s “Resistance” in which Kara and Sam go one-on-one in the Buccaneers makeshift Pyramid court. The audience starts to get a picture of what Pyramid is like, as well as learning that Kara was scouted for the pros, but taken out of contention because of a bad knee. The most important part of Pyramid, besides the players of course, is the Pyramid ball. The game is played by getting the ball into one of the scoring backdrops. We saw Kara demonstrate this (much to Anders surprise) in their pickup game on Caprica. We later see Kara bouncing the ball off the deck of the Astral Queen, before Lee takes it from her.

A Pyramid ball is slightly larger then a softball, and about as soft as a soccer ball. Each ball is painted black with red stripes, and most have quite a bit of weathering from use. Each ball measures about 4.63 inches in diameter. This is a great item and can go in any display case, or on a desk. If in need of a way to ‘motivate’ people, and add a little BSG flare, toss a Pyramid ball in their direction!
Kara’s Viper Canopy from Auction II
April 13, 2009
In the upcoming Second Live Auction we have select pieces from Kara’s “Pristine” Mark II Viper up for bid. One of them being the uber detailed canopy from Kara’s Viper when she returns from the dead. If you have seen the canopy in pictures by now, you may be thinking to yourself; “Why doesn’t the cool canopy for Kara’s Viper come with glass?” Well the simple explanation is that is never had glass in it. The piece was made to cover the frame of the existing canopy from the “Hero” Mark II Viper. Clever, eh.

The canopy is made from thin gauge aluminum flack stock and is expertly seam welded together. Some of the features that make it unique is that it is covered by round head washer self tapping screws. Only the heads of the screws were used to add realistic detail to the canopy. Well, that’s not entirely true. Each corner of the frame has a hole for a self tapping screw to attach the “pristine” canopy to the frame of the existing canopy. The frame also features quarter inch isolation foam on the back side so as not to mar or scratch underlying canopy. So, for one of you who may be bidding on the “Hero” Mark II Viper full size mock-up, you may want to also consider the pristine canopy to flush out your Viper.
Good hunting,
Steven
